Your adventure begins with a water taxi ride to Bark Bay, followed by a leisurely walk through coastal forests, expansive beaches, and unique wetlands, ending at Awaroa Beach. After a day full of exploration, enjoy a relaxing water taxi ride back to Marahau.

  • Kākā Encounters: Listen for the calls of the playful kākā as you explore the estuary at Bark Bay. These native parrots swoop across the valley, a testament to the successful conservation efforts in the Abel Tasman.
  • Tonga Quarry: Learn about the historical significance of Tonga Quarry, where the famous Tonga granite was once extracted and used in iconic New Zealand landmarks.
  • Onetahuti Beach: Step onto the beautiful crescent-shaped Onetahuti Beach, with sweeping views of Tonga Island and the surrounding marine reserve. It’s a perfect spot to take in the scenery and snap some photos.
  • Onetahuti Boardwalk: Cross the stunning boardwalk that traverses the estuary, offering a unique perspective of the coastal wetlands before you ascend to the Tonga Saddle.
  • Views from Tonga Saddle: Climb the Tonga Saddle and enjoy panoramic views back south along the coastline. At the top, the track splits—stay right on the non-DOC path to descend toward Awaroa Beach.
  • Awaroa Lodge Stop: Take a break at Awaroa Lodge, where you can relax in the lounge or courtyard with a drink or snack (any food or drinks purchased are at your own cost). It’s a great spot to unwind before heading to the beach.
  • Awaroa Wetlands: Explore the serene Awaroa Wetlands, a peaceful and picturesque area that showcases the park’s diverse ecosystems.

This includes providing you with the necessary information, training and safety equipment to participate in our activities.
