Snorkelling can be a very enjoyable and easy sport for everyone once you have learnt some simple techniques that can really improve your efforts. Experience the underwater world and have amazing encounters with all sorts of marine life, just by putting on a mask, fins and snorkel!
Goat Island Marine Reserve is teeming with numerous schools of fish, and there are small caves that provide shelter to some of the biggest crayfish ever seen. You can snorkel over kelp forests, sand flats or rocky shores and inspect the creatures that live there. All marine life is protected in the marine reserve which means no fishing and no collecting shellfish.
The SDI Snorkelling Course will cover all of the necessary skills and knowledge for snorkelling, including:
- Physics and physiology: buoyancy, pressure, equalization techniques
- Snorkelling equipment and how to use it
- The Aquatic Environment: waves, tides, currents and more!
Minimum age to take part is 18 yrs old or 14 yrs old with parental consent. Duration of the course is approx 4 hours including theory. You need to be able to swim, and you will need to sign a medical statement prior to taking part.
Snorkelling is a great introduction to underwater sports and can be the first step towards scuba diving.
