KAYAK - Full Day Maori Carvings and Mason's Rock Kayak Tour

From NZD NZ$250.00
  • Duration: 6 Hours (approx.)
  • Product code: PO7O9T

If you’re looking for a longer day experience on the water, this is the trip for you.

From our base in Acacia Bay, we will drive for 20 minutes to Whakaipo.  Whakaipo Bay is one of the last untouched public and farmed reserves left on the shores of Lake Taupo. This place is so rustic and raw, you will be speechless.

Once we have unloaded the kayaks and equipment.  Your guide will equip and brief you before setting off on our kayaking adventure.  Firstly, to Masons Rock – an impressive volcanic fan of rock emerging from the lake.

Then onto the historic Maori Rock Carvings at Mine Bay.  Where you will be captivated by these striking carvings (towering 14 meters high) as your experienced guide explains the carving’s history & cultural significance while you float beneath them inches away in orr. The smaller surrounding carvings become alive as you get visually closer to them.

During our trip we will stop for a relaxing delicious lunch, while taking in the magnificent mountain views. Here you can do some rock jumping or go for a swim in the clear waters of our beautiful lake.

On the last paddle leg, a few more legends & tails will be shared while paddling below native bush, past steep cliffs and past mini inlets that can only harbor kayaks, while watching the crystal clear water and bird life unveil.

No experience is necessary, as all our trips are guided, and full tuition and instruction is given. Our double kayaks are safe and easy for everyone to use. Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult in our kayaks.

We also have some Motorized kayaks available, which mean we can offer safe kayaking trips for the disabled, and for those who are unable to paddle due to injury and other health reasons too.

Allow approximately 6 hours (4 – 5 hours on the water).

Please note: We do run this trip sometimes in the opposite direction, starting at Acacia and heading towards our Whakaipo Bay. This is dependent on weather conditions.
