Journey out west to one of New Zealand's most famous surf beaches, Piha. Located about 45 minutes from the city centre our journey goes through the arty township of Titirangi before a short 30 minute stop-over of at the Arataki visitor centre. Here you can learn all about the history of the Waitakere Ranges regional park which covers over 16,000 hectares of native rainforest and coastline.
The Arataki visitor centre is also a gateway to some of the 250+KM worth of tramping tracks which lead to some of West Auckland's hidden gems including waterfalls, giant Kauri trees and amazing lookout points of the city, coastline and forest.
From here we continue our journey to Piha beach stopping off at a spectacular high peak lookout point over the coastline before making our way down the beach to explore the black sand surf beach and local cafe's.
KiteKite Falls & Mercer Bay Loop walk
For a bit of extra adventure check out nearby KiteKite falls. A 1.8KM 45 minute easy walk to a stunning waterfall. Perfect for a picnic after visiting the local Piha fish & chip and bit of a swim. You can even hide behind the sheet of water.
Upon leaving Piha we recommend the 1.4KM 1 hour Mercer Bay Loop walking track. An enjoyable scenic walk with amazing shoreline views along some of the highest sea cliffs in Auckland.
As there are dozens of walking trails and activities in this we can provide flexible itinerary planning to suit your specific requirements.
Recommended add-ons for this trip are Fairy Falls or Crystal Mountain which you can select at the next step.
